| PROCESSORS: |
 |
This chip is the heart of a computer, the microprocessor does all the computations like adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. The speed of a microprocessor is measured in megahertz, or cycles per second. The computer is also influenced by other factors, such as the efficiency of the processor, the bus architecture, the amount of memory available, and the software that is running on the computer |
| MOTHERBOARDS: |
| This is the main circuit board of your computer. It is where you'll find the CPU, the ROM, memory expansion slots, PCI slots, serial ports, USB ports, and all the controllers for things like the hard drive, DVD drive, keyboard, and mouse. Basically, the motherboard is what makes everything in your computer work together |
|
| HARD DRIVES: top —· |
 |
The hard drive is what stores all your data. The data is stored on a stack of disks that are mounted inside a solid encasement. These disks spin extremely fast (typically at either 5400, 7200 RPM & higher) so that data can be accessed immediately from anywhere on the drive. The data is stored on the hard drive magnetically, so it stays on the drive even after the power supply is turned off.
The term "hard drive" is actually short for "hard disk drive." The term "hard disk" refers to the actual disks inside the drive. |
| MEMORY: |
| "Random Access Memory," is made up of small memory chips that are connected to the motherboard of your computer.
Running programs from the RAM of the computer allows them to function without any lag time. The more RAM your computer has, the more data can be loaded from the hard drive into the RAM, which can help speed up your computer. In fact, adding RAM can be more beneficial to your computer's performance than upgrading the CPU . |

| MEDIA: |

|
CD's and DVD's are circular discs that are 4.75 in (12 cm) in diameter. The data is stored as small notches on the disc and is read by a laser from an optical drive. The drives translate the notches and have the advantage of allowing the user to jump to different places on the disc. A CDRW / DVD-RW can be erased and written to again. CDRW's can hold 700MB & DVD-RWs can hold 4.7GB of data. Because of their large capacity and ability to be used mulitple times, CDRW & DVD-RW discs are a great solution for frequent backups. |
| SOUND CARDS: |
|
A sound card is a computer expansion card that can input and output sound under control of computer programs. Typical uses of sound cards include providing the audio component for multimedia applications such as music composition, editing video or audio, presentation/education, and entertainment (games). Many computers have sound capabilities built in, while others require these expansion cards if audio capability is desired . |
|
| VIDEO CARDS: |

|
The video card is used to process the graphics portion of the processing load. Because most of today's programs are graphically oriented, the video card can help almost any program run more efficiently.
Video cards, also called graphics accelerators, can speed up both 2D and 3D graphics rendering. Photo editors, Web browsers and CAD programs will most likely benefit from the card's 2D & 3D acceleration.
Video cards are typically installed in either the PCI or AGP slots in the back of a computer. |
| LCD MONITORS: |
| "Liquid Crystal Display" or LCDs are super-thin displays that are used in laptop computer screens and flat panel monitors. The image on an LCD screen is created by sandwiching an electrically reactive substance between two electrodes. This color of this substance can be changed by increasing or reducing the electrical current. Since LCD screens are based on the principle of blocking light (rather than emitting it), they use up much less power than standard CRT (Cathode-Ray Tube) monitors. |
|
| NETWORKING: |

|
When you have two or more computers connected to each other, you have a network. The purpose of a network is to enable the sharing of files and information between mulitple systems. The Internet could be described as a global network of networks. Computer networks can be connected through cables, such as Ethernet cables or phone lines, or wirelessly, using wireless networking cards that send and receive data through the air.

| PRINTERS: |
| A printer is a device that accepts text and graphic output from a computer and transfers the information to paper, usually to standard size sheets of paper. The best-known non-impact printers are the inkjet printer, of which several makes of low-cost color printers are an example, and the laser printer . The inkjet sprays ink from an ink cartridge at very close range to the paper as it rolls by. The laser printer uses a laser beam reflected from a mirror to attract ink (called toner ) to selected paper areas as a sheet rolls over a drum. |

| MICROSOFT PRODUCTS: |

|
Computer software is a general term that describes computer programs.
Software can be difficult to describe because it is "virtual," or not physical like computer hardware . Instead, software consists of lines of code written by computer programmers that have been compiled into a computer program. Software programs are stored as binary data that is copied to a computer's hard drive , when it is installed.
While at its most basic level, software consists of binary data, CD-ROMs , DVDs , and other types of media that are used to distribute software can also be called software. Therefore, when you buy a software program, it often comes on a disc, which is a physical means of storing the software. |
